Shotmesh is a free screenshot beautifier that runs in your browser
Paste a screenshot, put it on an animated mesh background, hide anything sensitive, export a PNG, GIF or MP4. Built by one person for makers who show their work on X, LinkedIn, Product Hunt and GitHub.
Facts
The short version
- What it is
- A screenshot beautifier: backgrounds, frames, device mockups, hand-drawn annotations, and export.
- What makes it different
- Animated exports (GIF and MP4) and a privacy scan that finds emails, API keys and card numbers before you post.
- Where it runs
- Entirely in your browser. Rendering, OCR and video encoding happen on your machine. Nothing is uploaded.
- Price
- Free to edit and export with a small "Designed in Shotmesh.com" watermark. A paid plan removes the watermark and unlocks premium exports.
- Account
- Not needed to edit or export. An account exists only for the paid plan.
- Who makes it
- Tee, an indie developer, posting progress on X as @TeeDevh.
- Since
- 2026. Content last reviewed September 5, 2026.
Who
Made by Tee
I am Tee, an indie developer. I built Shotmesh because every screenshot I posted needed the same five steps: crop, hide a key, add a background, resize for the platform, and then it still sat still in a feed full of video. Shotmesh does those steps in one paste and adds motion.
Progress, numbers and feature requests are public on X at @TeeDevh. There is no marketing team, no sales call, and the comparison pages on this site say where other tools win.
How
How it works, technically
- Canvas rendering runs on Konva. Every edit is local; closing the tab is the only "delete".
- The privacy scan runs Tesseract OCR in a web worker and matches patterns for emails, Stripe, GitHub and AWS keys, JWTs, card numbers, amounts, phone numbers and @handles.
- GIF and MP4 are encoded in the browser with ffmpeg.wasm. GIF export auto-fits the 15 MB limit on X.
- The library ships 65 editable gradient presets plus animated mesh, image, GIF and video backgrounds, and 16 single-job tool pages that open the editor with a preset.
- The Chrome extension captures a tab and hands it straight to the editor.
Money
How it pays for itself
Free exports carry a small watermark. The paid plan removes it and unlocks premium exports. That is the whole model: no ads, no selling data, no upload to sell you storage.
Details on data handling are in the privacy policy. Photo credits for the Sunlight effect are on the credits page.
